NEW- U. S. Department of State Internship Fellows Program

If you are passionate about global issues, languages and/or foreign policy, apply to the U.S. Department of State’s Internship Fellows Program (IFP) for Summer 2009.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has chosen UMBC to be one of 15 colleges and universities throughout the United States to participate in this exciting new program designed to identify talented students who exhibit strong academic performance and demonstrate potential to succeed in foreign affairs careers.

An information session on this program will be held on Monday, September 29th from Noon to 1:00PM in the UC Ballroom Lounge.

The U.S. Department of State is the official international relations arm of the President of the United States. The Department is responsible for formulating, implementing and supporting U.S. foreign policy, assisting U.S. citizens abroad and managing the human and material resources that provide the platform for U.S. foreign policy.

Students can work in Washington, DC or have the opportunity to work at an embassy overseas. Internship Fellows serve a minimum of 10 consecutive 40-hour weeks and are paid $6,500+ over the course of the summer.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.2
- Be U.S. citizens
- Be entering their junior year, senior year, or first year of graduate school at the time the internship
- Have completed 60 credit hours by the beginning of the internship
- Undergo the standard security clearance process for interns

UMBC will be nominating four students to this program. To apply, please submit the following documents to The Shriver Center at UMBC:
- Official transcript (photocopies and unofficial transcripts will not be accepted)
- Resume
- Personal statement highlighting your interest in pursuing this opportunity and potential interest in a career with the U.S. Department of State
