Internships with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals - Application deadline February 6

Wyeth Pharmaceuticals is hiring nearly 20 interns from UMBC to work at their Collegeville, PA and Pearl River, NJ sites during summer 2009. These outstanding positions are paid and housing is provided.

In addition to several laboratory research positions for Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biology students within Wyeth's prestigious R&D division, hiring officials are also seeking students to fill several specialized positions.

1) R&D Strategy & Business Improvement Intern - This intern will develop an ‘assessment survey’, focusing on the adoption and acceptance of the new processes resulting from the “Strategies for Success in the New Environment Initiative” to Wyeth R&D and Commercial stakeholders. Assessment and interpretation of the survey results would be completed in collaboration with the R&D SBI group.
Additionally, this internship will provide insight and experience in planning and developing communications designed to affect organizational change management. Depending on the skills and experience of the intern in this position, there would be additional short-duration projects for which the intern could be coached to have single responsibility.

2) Biostatistics Graduate Student Intern - The intern's project will be related to either preclinical, translational medicine, or clinical statistics. The intern will receive one-on-one supervision from an experienced statistician in pharmaceutical industry. The projects will include hands-on learning of the typical responsibilities of a statistician working in biopharmaceuticals, and include a research focused project as well. At the completion of the internship, interns will present a summary of their work to the biostatistics group. Applicant must have completed at least two semesters of graduate work in statistics; more is preferred. In addition, applicants should have working knowledge of SAS, S plus or other statistical software and have a good communication skills.

Educational requirements: Applicants must have completed at least 2 semesters of graduate work in statistics (more than 2 is preferred). In addition, applicants should have a working knowledge of SAS, S plus or other statistical software and have good verbal and written communication skills.

3) Global Regulatory Affairs Intern - The labeling manager intern will use facilitation and project management skills as well as medical knowledge to assist Labeling managers with the end to end labeling process through decision-making, drafting, and final local implementation.
The intern will learn:
• to lead labeling team meetings
• global labeling guidance information
• competitive labeling strategy
• technical skills for various software
• regulatory submission strategies

Daily activities will be attending and possibly running labeling team meetings; preparing background materials, agenda and action items; reviewing competitive label; creating or modifying labeling text; reviewing/analyzing literature, study reports, etc; attending other interdepartmental meetings.

Educational requirements: Completed sophomore year of college (preferred)
Preferred major: Pharmacy, Pre-med, Chemistry, Biology, Nursing
**This is a non-laboratory internship**

4) Biomedical Engineering Intern - The Biomedical Engineering Department (BME) introduces and evaluates new technology for Wyeth. We also have a role in promoting the proper and efficient use of new technology.

Accordingly we have a need for an intern to develop a series of Web-based training modules to be used by our in-house customers. These modules will cover the following:

1) An overview of automation concepts suitable for a skilled technician who is contemplating the automation of a manual technique
2) A training module for developing a proposal for some automation system. This module will probably have video components
3) An overview of BME’s TransActa line of robots for chemists and biologists.
4) Detailed training in the use the TransActa robots
5) Maintenance of the TransActa robot devices and installation of the software.

Educational requirements: Candidate must be pursuing a degree in an engineering discipline – preferably Mechanical engineering.

Required experience: Candidate must be able create web pages and operate a video camera.

5) Pharmaceutical Risk Management Intern - Work with Wyeth’s Risk Management group to develop Risk Management plans for compounds in Wyeth’s development pipeline. Gain knowledge of Wyeth’s Submission Ready Component tool in preparation of Risk Management Plans. Collect and summarize safety/risk information from preclinical studies and clinical research studies. Coordinate Risk Management planning meetings. Interact with R&D Project teams and provide updates of Risk Management activities. Participate in Risk Management planning meetings for marketed compounds and assist in implementation of Risk Management plans. Gain knowledge of GSSEL Department activities as well as an overview of other Wyeth departments.

Educational requirements(s): Pre-medicine, Pre-Pharmacy, Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Project management

6) Research & Development Information Services Intern - The intern will be responsible for researching and evaluating environment management and processes for a number of clinical applications. Identify ways to add value to existing technical documents including system architecture, getting started guides etc.

Be prepared to gain experience in technical and business functions related to clinical applications.

Job Responsibilities:

* Research and evaluate environment management processes for various clinical systems
* Refine system availability metrics for clinical applications
* Establish metrics for the current technical knowledge repository.

Educational requirements(s):
Candidate should be entering their junior or senior year with an educational background in an IT/computer curriculum or in a corporate-training curriculum.
