Engineering Internships with General Electric

General Electric will be interviewing on-campus on February 24, 2009 for summer internship opportunities at the GE Health Care - Maternal Infant Care (MIC) Division in Laurel, MD. Through these positions you will gain hands-on engineering experience with topics such as Lean manufacturing, materials issues, CAD and project management. Position descriptions are provided below.

Summary:
GE Healthcare Technical Interns work on a variety of assignments with responsibilities and hands-on involvement in areas such as Design/Development and Manufacturing/Sourcing. This particular position will work with our Maternal Infant Care (MIC) division in Laurel, MD.

Position Description:
Assignments in Design/Development may include using CAD design systems, trouble-shooting hardware/software, and designing/testing/debugging new functions/features.

Basic Qualifications:
- 3.0 cumulative overall GPA or better
- Able to work for a minimum of 12 weeks in the Summer term
- Must be willing to relocate to Laurel, MD
- Must be pursuing a degree in Engineering
- Must have Unrestricted Authorization to work in the US (please see below for details)

Summary:
Operations assignments could include (a) core operations and fulfillment activities which may consist of Lean Action Workouts, Accessory Planning, or Capital Equipment order fulfillment (b) sourcing activities such as working with the engineering department and outside vendors and suppliers on materials. There will be project-oriented assignments where a manager and mentor are assigned for support. This particular position will work with our Maternal Infant Care (MIC) division in Laurel, MD.

Position Description:
Operations assignments vary on assigned department. A fulfillment assignment may include working on material shortage issues, and working on materials planning while a sourcing assignments will entail working closely with the engineering team and strategic suppliers to identify opportunities for productivity (reducing costs) and supplier consolidation.

These roles would require working with other departments and customers as necessary to ensure timely shipments, streamlining and documentation of the standard operating processes etc for the assigned area.
