Serve and Live at UMBC! Applications Are Now Being Accepted!

The Shriver Living Learning Center (SLLC) is made up of a diverse group of UMBC students dedicated to service from all majors and backgrounds. This unique group of students in Erickson Hall participate in the 096 practicum each semester through The Shriver Center, completing 3-5 hours per week to their respective service site (such populations as youth, health care, poverty, homelessness, animal welfare, adult literacy, etc.). Structured group reflections and weekly Blackboard questions are completed to enhance students' experiences. These students also have the opportunity to link their service experiences to service-learning courses connected with The Shriver Center (SOCY 396 or EDUC 387). For the last few years, the SLLC has participated in a large service event in the spring - take a look at last year's "Solutions Through Service" Conference held at UMBC, planned and implemented by students on SLLC!

To download an application, go to http://www.shrivercenter.org/service_living.html. Current on-campus students must return this by March 2, 2009. New students to campus living have until May 1, 2009. This form can either be dropped off to Lori Hardesty at The Shriver Center or emailed to her at lhardesty@umbc.edu.
