Web Designer intern duties:
• Create design prototypes including graphic design, site navigation, and content layout for various web sites.

PAID Fall 2009 Service-Learning Leadership Position Available!!!

This is a great opportunity for those interested in developing their leadership skills in partnership with a local community-based YMCA after-school mentoring program called College Gardens Youth Program. This Service-Learning Intern would be supported through Service-Learning Staff through The Shriver Center to coordinate fellow UMBC volunteers doing outreach this Fall 2009 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-5:45 pm. Participating youth attend a local elementary school and receive great support from UMBC students through educational support and fun, interactive activities. Service-learning Interns leading service sites through The Shriver Center are also expected to attend meetings every other Friday 12-12:50 pm to develop volunteer recruitment strategies, engage in reflective activities designed to assist in retention, and participate in professional development to enhance their own abilities.

Several Baltimore City schools plan summer activities for their students to keep them engaged in educational opportunities. A few groups will be visiting UMBC to showcase this exemplary institution and what potential opportunities lay ahead for them as they step onto a college campus and realize what they can achieve. This is most successfully done through interactions with current UMBC students. This may come in the form of Question and Answer Panels and tourguides/chaperones.

Maryland Food Bank Needs Volunteers!

The Maryland Food Bank recently received 3 trailers of donated food and product with 4 more trailers arriving in the next week! They are in need of individual volunteers and volunteer groups to come out during their daily schedule, which is as follows:

- 2 sessions available - either 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm

Recent College Grads: Full-time Position Available in Baltimore

Service-Learning at The Shriver Center has enjoyed a great partnership with the Baltimore Collegetown Network which brings 16 area colleges and universities together with government, business and community leaders to develop and market Baltimore as a vibrant place to live and learn. Through partnerships, marketing initiatives and advocacy, BCN works to change perceptions about the city, support cultural offerings, improve transportation systems and expand services in the region. BCN is dedicated to strengthening the links among the city’s educational, cultural and community institutions to take full advantage of the creative energy they represent.

Baltimore LatinoFest 09 Needs Volunteers June 27th-28th!

One of The Shriver Center's long-standing service sites Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO), which works with youth of Latino descent, is hosting their annual LatinoFest Saturday, June 27th-Sunday, June 28th, 2009. This event will be held in Patterson Park in East Baltimore. Volunteers are greatly needed for four hour shifts on either/both days. Free lunch and t-shirts will be given.
