Are you looking to get involved in new activities? Do you like volunteering, but need transportation to get to the service site? Are you interested in receiving a transcript notation or academic credit for your service?
If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, then the Service-Learning Program at The Shriver Center is your service solution!
Students placed through the Service-Learning Program are enrolled in the 096 Service-Learning Practicum, which enables them to receive a notation on their transcript which recognizes participation in university-sanctioned community service. A 3-5 hour weekly commitment of time is required for participation in Service-Learning placements.
To learn more about weekly service opportunities available for the Fall semester, check out our Fall 2009 Service Charts
Academic credit is also available for students who are interested in connecting their service with a specific course or discipline. For Fall 2009, the following classes are available:
• SOCY 396
• EDUC 387
• HONR 390
To receive authorization to register for these classes, students must select a service site (Fall 2009 Service Charts) and meet with a Service-Learning Program Coordinator.
