Marketing Internship at the Balt. Symphony Orchestra!

Hours: 10-15 hours per week during normal business hours

INTRODUCTION

The BSO’s marketing department is responsible for promoting and generating sales for the many aspects of the world-class Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The 2009-2010 season marks the Orchestra’s 94th season and the third with Music Director Marin Alsop, who made international headlines when she became the first female to lead a major American symphony orchestra. The BSO presents nearly 160 concerts throughout the season across a diverse range of series including SummerFest, Off the Cuff, SuperPops and mid-week education concerts serving public, private schools and home-school students in Baltimore, Baltimore City, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Howard counties. This internship is an excellent opportunity for those interested in gaining valuable and direct experience in the marketing department of a major performing arts organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The marketing intern’s projects will include, but are not limited to:
• Researching and assisting in the implementation of grassroots promotions and partnerships to generate ticket sales
• Maintaining concierge desk and materials
• Assisting in the execution of subscriber retention, loyalty and recognition programs
• Clipping BSO print advertisements for archives
• Pursuing group sales opportunities
• Supporting marketing initiatives at select concerts
• Projects as assigned, based on department needs and intern's interests

The marketing intern will also assist with administrative and general marketing duties, and at times support the BSO Marketing Department at The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland. The intern is eligible for complimentary tickets when available.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should possess strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and other basic technologies; impeccable attention to detail; the ability to multi-task; positive energy and a willingness to "pitch in" wherever needed. The position requires flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. An interest in symphonic music or the performing arts is helpful, but not required. College students at the junior, senior and graduate levels studying marketing, public relations, communications or equivalent fields are preferred.
