Congratulations to Service-Learning's Project HEALTH!

Congratulations to Project HEALTH Baltimore for its recent Honorable Mention recognition by the Newman's Own Foundation. The NOF sponsored the Community Service Challenge, in collaboration with the America East Conference, to recognize student-led groups who are promoting and engaging in service. Project HEALTH Baltimore is a student-led service-learning site that supports the Family Help Desk at the St. Agnes Clinic. Students link individuals and families with community-based resources, enabling them to achieve the stability and opportunity for better access to healthcare. UMBC students that volunteer with Project HEALTH are supported by the Shriver Center's Service-Learning Program, which enables them to receive a notation on their transcript that recognizes their participation in this service-learning activity. The $7,500 grant awarded to the group recognizes their student-led service efforts in the local Baltimore community.

Student leaders for the Project HEALTH group include Karen Silver, '10; Kezia Alexander, '10, and Mohsan Chaudhry, '10. Mark Marino, Executive Director of Project HEALTH Baltimore, supervises and supports the students' service through the organization.
