Volunteers Needed for Baltimore City Computer Initiative

'Let's All Take Computers Home,' or L@TCH, is a program created from a partnership between a community organization in east Baltimore called, Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition (HEBCAC) and the Center for Community Technology Services(CCTS). The goal of L@TCH is to distribute a home computer to every Baltimore city student who does not have one. Those who work on this program believe that computers can help parents keep up to date on their child's progress in school while improving a child's home learning environment by providing them with a home learning center.

We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in leading computer training workshops for Baltimore families. We will train or coach volunteers to deliver 3 hour training sessions to small groups of parents and kids at various locations in Baltimore. We are working with five schools, at each school there will be three training workshops that will take place sometime between the end of November to February. We are asking each volunteer to, ‘adopt a school’ and if possible, lead all three training workshops at one location. The workshops would be on weekday evenings and/or Saturday mornings. The curriculum has already been written so the computer lesson is scripted. The focus of the lesson would be computer set-up and online safety. You do not have to be a tech geek to help us, we just need someone who knows a little bit about computers and is not afraid of public speaking!
