Intern Position Reopened at Space Science Telescope

Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) announces an opportunity for a highly motivated undergraduate student to provide content management/migration resources for the STScI Website Redesign Project. A student could work up to 16 hours per week. There is an hourly stipend of $13 per hour and flexible work schedules available.

STScI is redesigning the primary website. A major cost area for this effort will be with migrating web content from the existing site to the new site’s page templates. The intern resource will need to become familiar with the existing website and underlying structures and then to work within the project team to port content into the new pages.

Qualified candidates will be actively working towards an information management or computer science degree. Direct experience with website design/development and/or content management is desirable. Experience with html (preferably html5) is required and with a web content management system is strongly preferred.

Baltimore BORN, founded by RAVEN Domonique Foxworth, is seeking Tutors

BORN is an after school program based in East Baltimore and was created by Baltimore Raven Domonique Foxworth for the young men in Baltimore who have the talent and potential to succeed, but lack the opportunities to do so due to various social obstacles and the appeal of the street. The 5th and 6th graders at BORN struggle with their math and reading skills and need help in the form of tutoring. We are currently seeking university students who like working with young kids to tutor and help the boys succeed.

Position Description: This position would require the tutor to assist the students with their math and Reading assignments from school there by enhancing their Math and Reading skills. The tutor would work with one or two boys at a time. The over all aim is to improve academic achievement of the boy's so that they will successfully transition from one grade level to the next with ease.

Responsibilities:
• Complete 3-5 hours of tutoring a week
• Maintain a Math/Reading log of each student tutored so as to track progress and identify areas of learning that need attention.
• Work patiently with students to ensure they understand concepts being taught.
• Report to Program Managers after tutoring session to discuss observations/input/progress made.

Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a university.
• Successful completion of at least a basic university level Math and English course.

Hours: We are willing to work with your schedule. Tutoring will take place anytime between 2:30pm-5:00 Monday-Friday. Tutors can choose what days they would like to come in. A minimum of one hour is expected each time you come in.

University of MD School of Medicine, Dept. of Pediatrics seeks Health Educator Assistant Internship

Compensation: Research or Internship Credit, Parking and Meal vouchers

Position Description: This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Division of Growth and Nutrition within the Department of Pediatrics under the guidance of Dr. Maureen Black. The interventionist will co-deliver a health- promotion intervention to middle school girls in Baltimore city as part of the Challenge! project. The intervention will take place during and after school. The intervention is an extension of the original Challenge! project and aims to prevent obesity, improve diet, and increase physical activity among adolescent girls. For this intervention, the interventionist will engage in moderate-vigorous physical activities with the adolescents one to two times each week at a local YMCA.

Responsibilities include recruiting participants, evening and weekend phone calls, delivering the intervention lessons, following-up with participants by phone, transporting class materials, attending weekly meetings, data entry, filing, and other office duties. Between cohorts, the interventionist will be expected to conduct baseline and environmental evaluations of the participants, schools, and neighborhoods. Publishing/Editorial Internship at Lexington Books!

Lexington Books (www.lexingtonbooks.com), a scholarly publisher in Lanham, MD, is looking for mature and dedicated college students who are interested in pursuing a career in publishing. Your responsibilities as an editorial intern will include a variety of tasks that will give you excellent exposure to the business of book publishing from stem to stern. The internship offers a student valuable office and administrative experience, as your primary responsibility will be to support many of our key editorial tasks.
