Lexington Books (www.lexingtonbooks.com), a scholarly publisher in Lanham, MD, is looking for mature and dedicated college students who are interested in pursuing a career in publishing. Your responsibilities as an editorial intern will include a variety of tasks that will give you excellent exposure to the business of book publishing from stem to stern. The internship offers a student valuable office and administrative experience, as your primary responsibility will be to support many of our key editorial tasks. Depending on the needs of the press, you will:
• process new proposals and learn to evaluate and comment on them,
• prepare and send out contract packages,
• communicate with authors as needed,
• contact scholars for book endorsements and peer review,
• draft marketing copy,
• and take on other tasks as assigned.
An ideal candidate would have strong organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, superb verbal and written communication, and an eye for detail. This is an unpaid internship that may be either part-time or full-time, and candidates must be able to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement.
