BORN is an after school program based in East Baltimore and was created by Baltimore Raven Domonique Foxworth for the young men in Baltimore who have the talent and potential to succeed, but lack the opportunities to do so due to various social obstacles and the appeal of the street. The 5th and 6th graders at BORN struggle with their math and reading skills and need help in the form of tutoring. We are currently seeking university students who like working with young kids to tutor and help the boys succeed.
Position Description: This position would require the tutor to assist the students with their math and Reading assignments from school there by enhancing their Math and Reading skills. The tutor would work with one or two boys at a time. The over all aim is to improve academic achievement of the boy's so that they will successfully transition from one grade level to the next with ease.
Responsibilities:
• Complete 3-5 hours of tutoring a week
• Maintain a Math/Reading log of each student tutored so as to track progress and identify areas of learning that need attention.
• Work patiently with students to ensure they understand concepts being taught.
• Report to Program Managers after tutoring session to discuss observations/input/progress made.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a university.
• Successful completion of at least a basic university level Math and English course.
Hours: We are willing to work with your schedule. Tutoring will take place anytime between 2:30pm-5:00 Monday-Friday. Tutors can choose what days they would like to come in. A minimum of one hour is expected each time you come in.
Position Type: Since we are a non profit this position is a Volunteer/ Unpaid position.
