Calling All Students Interested in Solving the Healthcare Crisis!

Health Leads (formally known as Project HEALTH) is an organization that seeks to break the link between poverty and poor health. Though national in scope, Health Leads takes a local approach to finding innovative solutions to the health care crisis. We mobilize college students to work in urban community clinics and provide low-income families in Baltimore with access to a wide variety of resources. Health Leads volunteers work closely with patients to navigate the resource landscape in order to address basic needs such as employment, housing, food, utilities, etc. We also work closely with doctors, nurses, lawyers, and social workers to provide patients with a holistic approach to health care that complements the care provided by health professionals in the clinical setting. Health Leads is a national network with sites in Baltimore, Boston, New York, Rhode Island, Washington D.C., and Chicago. Universities participating in Health Leads Baltimore include the Johns Hopkins University and Loyola College in Maryland. UMBC, in partnership with St. Agnes Hospital, has launched a family-resource desk to connect families to community resources critical to their health, safety and economic survival.
