Exciting volunteer Intern Opportunity to work with the Director of Policy and Government Affairs for the MD Dept. of Business and Economic Development during the Legislative Session in Annapolis.

Duties: The intern will respond to legislative requests for information, attend bill hearings and work with committee staff and lobbyists. The intern will be responsible for conducting research on particular legislative issues that impact the Department and the business community. This will include library research, review of legislative committee files, and preparing notes and policy memos.

The Internal Revenue Service is recruiting undergraduate students of all majors for a paid 15-week long Spring 2010 internship! The Conference and Tourism unit in Baltimore County's Department of Economic Development is a newly created team working to create the product and marketing strategy to increase business and leisure travel and tourism in Baltimore County.

The Conference and Tourism unit is searching for a school year intern that could extend into the summer. This is an exciting opportunity for students interested in working for a start-up organization in the public sector. The student will gain valuable experience in market research, customer service, public administration, tourism and hospitality, communications, and promotions.

The intern will serve as a part-time (10-20 hours) contractual volunteer working with the Conference and Tourism Director, while contributing to the units new strategy.

While the interns’ individual responsibilities and tasks vary, they are united through weekly events and, most importantly, through service. HACU National Internship Program program recruits college students for paid summer and semester-long internships at federal agencies and private corporations in Washington, D.C., and throughout the country. These ten and fifteen-week internship programs give college students direct experience in a myriad of careers in the federal and corporate sectors.

To date, HNIP has helped over 7,000 students find internships that closely relate to their majors or career goals. The Governor's Summer Internship Program was created to introduce college students to the unique challenges and rewards of working within Maryland State Government. For 10 weeks, beginning June 1st, GSIP Interns will:

All positions require US Citizenship, a 3.00 GPA, 15 to 20 hours of intern work for 15 weeks starting in February, and pay from GS-4 to GS-9 (about $13 to $22 per hour) depending on year in school and academic ranking. Most positions are located on Security Blvd in Baltimore/Woodlawn, MD.

Internships are important to obtain admission to graduate school and to find a position after graduation. You gain experience and are almost certainly eligible to earn upper level credit by interning 8 to 10 hours per week.

Once you meet with a coordinator, The Shriver Center will send your resume to organizations that interest you. In other words, we'll do the mailing and employer outreach on your behalf.

To get started stop by the Shriver Center ANY TIME between 9:00am and 4:00pm on Tuesday, September 2 to Thursday, September 4 for the Fall 2008 Kick Off. Simply bring an electronic copy of your resume on a USB drive or CD and we'll get you set up on UMBCworks and ready to look for positions THAT DAY! It's that simple!

IN ORDER TO GET STARTED, PLEASE:
1) Make an appointment to meet with a coordinator to get your resume reviewed if you have not done so already. Stop by the Shriver Center office (1st floor UMBC Public Policy Building) or call 410-455-2493 to schedule the appointment. The appointment will take no longer than half an hour. During our meeting, we will review your resume, go over your credit options, and show you how to apply to positions.

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN INTERNSHIP/CO-OP or RESEARCH position and just want credit or an internship/co-op/research notation on your transcript, please call our office to make an appointment to see a coordinator. We will simply need a letter/memo from your employer verifying that you are working at least 8 to 10 hours per week. If you found your position using UMBCworks, you will not need to provide this information.

The financial consultant intern will be responsible for providing marketing, sales, administrative and operations support to a expanding financial planning practice.

Marketing efforts will include assisting in event planning and implementing a client dinner seminar as well as coordinating education classes for Certified Public Accounts (CPA). Marketing efforts will also include adding client profile information to our client database.

Sales efforts include making business 401k calls to prospects located in the Howard County, Anne Arundel County and Baltimore areas. In addition to calling prospects, the intern will occasionally call existing clients with new ideas on Smith Barney products and services.

Finally, operational support will include researching financial materials that will be used for e-mail distributions, training clients on how to use Smith Barney Assess, our online service, and assisting in analyzing this information to increase the effectiveness of sales efforts and future marketing campaigns.

Technical, as well as sales training and coaching will be provided in each of these areas.
