The PCW has monthly meetings to address issues that directly or indirectly concern women students, faculty and staff on the UMBC campus, and those issues that relate to equal access for women to the educational and employment opportunities at UMBC.          <title>Public Allies Deadline: May 15th!</title>
         <description><![CDATA[Public Allies Maryland is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 program year! Through our signature AmeriCorps program, Public Allies identifies talented young adults, ages 18-30, from diverse backgrounds who have a passion to make a difference and helps them turn that passion into a viable career path working for community and social change. We seek diverse, dedicated, service-minded individuals to serve in our full-time, ten-month, paid leadership positions. We develop the next generation of civic leaders through nonprofit apprenticeships, leadership development training, and team service projects. The next class will serve from October 2011-July 2012.

         <title>Invitation for Applications to Represent the U.S. at the UNESCO Youth Summit</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<strong>The U.S. Department of State</strong> is now accepting applications for the 7th UNESCO Youth Forum. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Youth Forum is a biennial conference that brings together youth from over 80 countries to exchange views and identify shared opportunities to address global problems within UNESCO’s mandate.  

This year, the Youth Forum will be in mid-October at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.  Each National Commission for UNESCO may send up to two candidates to represent youth in their home country.  At the Forum, youth delegates will share their experiences and seek ways that UNESCO can use its mandate to promote a better future for mankind.  The outcome from the Forum will be forwarded to the UNESCO General Conference for consideration.

Eligibility is limited to U.S. Citizens at least 18 years old and not older than 24 as of October 1, 2011.  We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply, including those enrolled in community colleges and those not enrolled in academic programs. 

<strong>IF INTERESTED:</strong>
Application packets should include a one-page resume along with a written, audio, or video response to the question: “What is the greatest global challenge facing youth, and how can American youth help to address it?”  All material must be submitted electronically to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO Executive Secretariat (DCUNESCO@state.gov) by May 15, 2011 (11:59pm EDT).

The Market Edge organization is a center of excellence in the Retail Energy business that provides strategic marketing research and analytics, product, pricing and marketing & communications insights for our partners and customers. For 2011, we have internships in three key areas:
-	Marketing
-	Web Platform
-	Data Research & Analytics.

Interns will be given the opportunity to work on projects and initiatives tied to specific retail energy markets/regions and/or a specific marketing functional area of discipline.  Interns will collaborate with select multi-disciplined cross functional teams/organizations throughout the retail organization (including outside partners) to participate in and influence projects throughout the respective market/region.  

Each intern will report to a director.

While specific projects will be determined based on the intern’s major and background, some responsibilities are outlined below:

The <strong>Web Platform Intern</strong> will help in the determining the messaging for the retail customer website. He or she will accomplish this using both push and pull strategies including SEO, PPC, link building (and buying), targeted ad campaigns, community development and more.  They will also support in content research and development for content on the web platform.
•	Create content for and work with Web Platform Manager to execute online banner, retargeting, and other web-based ad campaigns
•	Create content for and work with Web Platform Manager to execute email marketing campaigns and customer communications
•	Support community development, through input on the social media strategy

The <strong>Marketing Research & Analytics Intern</strong> will support analysis and evaluation of existing and new business lines profitability, new opportunities and sales analysis.  The intern will also perform key research as assigned.   
-	Using internal and external data for basic business case modeling.
-	Conduct research on energy and related industries, key competitors of CNE and new markets/products associated with new business lines.
-	Support in preparing reports (daily, weekly, monthly) and (as applicable) presentations

Major duties and responsibilities: 
 The candidate will be an important member of a team investigating the use of new technologies for the targeted delivery of biological reagents to target cells. Under the supervision of an experienced Sci I, the candidate will performing a variety of standard laboratory techniques, including but not restricted to the isolation of lymphotes from whole blood, tissue culture, mRNA isolation, quantitative PCR, in vitro functional assays and ELISA. The candidate will be expected to collate data, interpret and present results to small groups. It is presumed that the candidate will develop their repertoire of laboratory skills, gain knowledge into the processes by which cells regulate their gene expression and function, and how we can/may manipulate them for the development of novel therapeutics.

This internship is focused on studying aspects of cellular immunology by examining the effects of a monoclonal antibody on immune responses.          <title>Health Leads Recruiting for Summer Volunteers!</title>
         <description><![CDATA[Health Leads (formally known as Project HEALTH) is an organization that seeks to break the link between poverty and poor health. Though national in scope, Health Leads takes a local approach to finding innovative solutions to the health care crisis. 

We mobilize college students to work in urban community clinics and provide low-income families in Baltimore with access to a wide variety of resources. Health Leads volunteers work closely with patients to navigate the resource landscape in order to address basic needs such as employment, housing, food, utilities, etc. We also work closely with doctors, nurses, lawyers, and social workers to provide patients with a holistic approach to health care that complements the care provided by health professionals in the clinical setting. UMBC, in partnership with St. Agnes Hospital, has launched a family-resource desk to connect families to community resources critical to their health, safety and economic survival.          <description><![CDATA[<strong>Gloto </strong>(<a href="http://www.gloto.com">http://www.gloto.com</a>) is looking to HIRE an intern or full-time post graduation hire.  The position has a competitive pay rate based on education and experience.

The company is located in Howard County only about 20 minutes from Campus AND just signed Google and Barnes & Noble as clients.

The key candidate needs to be a high-energy people person who has the confidence and drive to flourish in a fast-moving start-up environment. There will be plenty of on-the-job training but the company needs a quick learner and self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.

<strong> Key skills are:</strong>
1) Familiarity and competence with mobile devices (especially smartphones) and social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Fourquare, YouTube, etc.)
2) Excellent verbal and written skills with a commitment to excellent customer service
3) Basic understanding of marketing, public relations, and graphic design
4) Minimum GPA of 3.2 in related discipline - the more technical experience the better but they will not be writing software or managing IT infrastructure
5) A willingness to work hard and become a valued team member in a startup environment
6) Disciplined and deadline-oriented

         <title>Apply for Leadership Opportunities through Service-Learning!</title>
         <description><![CDATA[The Shriver Center is currently seeking Service-Learning Interns for the 2011-2012 academic year. Interns play a pivotal role in the Service-Learning Program, which places over 600 UMBC students each year at service sites.  Service-Learning Interns are student leaders who aspire to take on a more challenging role to lead various service sites.  The S-L Intern position offers numerous opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as linkages to future leadership positions.  The positions open for the 2011-2012 year are open to students from all majors!

<strong><u>OPEN POSITIONS:</u></strong>

<strong>The Choice Program's College Night:</strong> coordinate mentoring activities to adolescents visiting UMBC on Mondays from 5pm-8:30pm

<strong>College Gardens Youth Program:</strong> coordinate after-school activities to elementary and middle school aged youth on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 2:15pm-5:45pm

<strong>Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO):</strong> provide academic and literacy support to Latino youth on Saturdays from 9am-1:45pm

<strong>MS Swim:</strong>  provide one-on-one aquatic therapy support for adults who have Multiple Sclerosis at the Catonsville Y on Fridays/Sundays from 1pm-4pm

<strong>Refugee Youth Project at Patterson Park High School:</strong>  provide tutoring and mentoring support to adolescent refugees on Wednesdays from 2:40pm-6:30pm

<strong>Refugee Youth Project with Project Team: </strong> coordinate after-school activities for elementary school children on Mondays from 3pm-6pm

<strong>LET'S GO Boys & Girls STEM Program:</strong>  provide tutoring and small group instruction in STEM robotics program at the Westport Boys & Girls Club of Baltimore City on Thursdays 3pm-7:30pm

You must be eligible to work in the United States and have a strong academic record (3.0 GPA or better). You must be available to work a minimum of six (6) consecutive weeks during the months of May through August.  Prior related experience is a plus.  Outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to write clearly and accurately, and strong verbal communication skills are essential.  As part of the hiring process, you must successfully complete a background investigation, reference check, and pre-placement physical and drug screen.
