Awesome Web Development Position! $30 per hour!

WebMechanix is looking for a Web Development RockStar. Is it you?

Have you ever started your own website, or helped friends or family with theirs? Have you heard of things like “HTML”, “CSS”, or “domain name servers”? Are you looking for some training to take you natural web development aptitude to the next level? Do you like money, fun, learning valuable skills, and meeting important people? Would you like to earn a lot of money working almost entirely on your computer?

RockStar Job Description

We are bringing in 1-2 smart college RockStars to help us work with our expanding client base. The position will consist of a variety of different types of activities and is a bit difficult to define in just a brief job description.

The main activities will be learning and experimenting with the technical side of effective online marketing, and then actually helping us do it for clients. Things like HTML and CSS will be a major part of the experience, but there are many other aspects as well.

For instance, there will likely be a good bit of reading, writing, and interfacing with clients as well. Additionally, you may end up becoming an expert at things like Google Adwords, Facebook marketing, search engine optimization, and copy writing. You will also be learning about business by participating in strategy meetings, going on meeting with existing and potential clients, and generally just learning a lot about this fast-changing and lucrative industry.

Since we’re a startup tech firm, every day is fun and different and for this reason, it’s difficult to define exactly what you will be doing.

One day you may be learning the ins and outs of internet marketing, the next you may be out at a client’s office shooting a YouTube video, and then the next day you may find yourself sitting in on a sales meeting with a couple of CEOs. You will get experience in everything from sales and marketing, to finance and operations, to human resources and research and development. It will be a mixture of time spent working here in our office as part of our team, and time spent working independently, which you can do at your house, the Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, or Puerto Rico (anywhere that you have access to the internet).

This is an incredible opportunity for the right candidate. Companies are hiring SEOs (people who know SEO) like crazy. http://tinyurl.com/llx4ay . And they definitely don’t teach it in school. The only way to learn SEO is to attend expensive seminars, teach yourself, or learn it from somebody like us.

Interested? Apply today on UMBCworks!

4. Enjoy your internship, co-op, or research position!

If you do not already have an internship lined up but are interested in obtaining one, we’ll be glad to help you with that as well. To begin the process of finding an internship through the Shriver Center and UMBCworks, visit http://www.shrivercenter.org/documents/Shriver%20Center%20Four%20Step%20Process.pdf That link will detail exactly what you need to do.

A Thanksgiving Message from the Shriver Center

Are you dreading that Thanksgiving conversation?

You know, the one that goes something like:

Family-member: So, what are you going to do next summer?

You: I don't know, probably the same thing I did last year.

Family Member: Well, with all the news about the economy, I don't think it's smart to put all your eggs in one basket. And you know you can't mooch off of us another year.

You: Stop bugging me! I just don't know where to begin!

And an awkward silence fills the room, ruining your delicious pumpkin pie.

Wouldn't you rather be able to say...

You: Well, I met with my Shriver Center coordinator and they helped me get my resume in good shape. They also showed me how to use UMBCworks to apply to positions. I have two offers already from Fortune 500 companies and I'm interviewing with 3 other organizations over winter break. While I haven't made up my mind yet, I have a lot of good choices. The economy may be down, but there is still a strong market for interns and I know I'm going to have a good experience that may even set me up for a fulltime job after graduation.

Call 410-455-2493 to make an appointment with the Shriver Center TODAY to start your path to a successful spring or summer internship and avoid Thanksgiving awkwardness.

Microsoft Internships

Apply via UMBCworks

Program Manager (PM)
Develop the Vision, and Deliver the Goods
As a Program Manager intern, you’ll get to help drive the technical vision, design and implementation of next-generation software solutions. You’ll transform the product vision into elegant designs that will ultimately turn into products used by Microsoft customers. The PM intern helps manage feature sets throughout the product lifecycle, and you’ll have the chance to see your design through to completion. You’ll also work directly with other key team members including Software Development Engineers and Software Development Engineers in Test. Program Managers are advocates for end-users, so your passion for anticipating customer needs and creating outside-the-box solutions for them will really help you shine in this role.

Qualifications:
• Pursuing a BS/MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
• 1-2 years experience programming in C++, Java or other computer programming languages preferred
• Familiarity with managing complex project schedules, solving complex problems, and nurturing cross-group collaboration
• Strong technical prowess, including understanding of algorithms, systems architecture, and end-user experience

Software Development Engineer (SDE)
Work at the Core of Every Product We Build
This internship is where the fun begins for code gurus like you. As a hands-on Software Development Engineer intern, you’ll learn how to make decisions about design and feature implementation, using your mastery of technical tools to help make a product vision a reality. If you would like to write code and design efficient data structures and algorithms to develop next-generation applications or operating systems, listen up. This internship shows you how SDEs bring products to life by working with Program Managers to ensure strong design and Software Development Engineers in Test to ensure quality through testing. Ultimately for the SDE, it’s your code that turns concepts into new technologies and services.

Qualifications:
• Pursuing a BS/MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
• 1-2 years experience programming in C/C++/C#, Java and/or other computer programming languages preferred
• Ability to derive creative and innovative solutions by thinking "outside the box"
• Expertise in feature definition, design, and feasibility
• Demonstrated skill in estimating development time

Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Discover Life on the Last Line of Defense
As an intern Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you’ll own it, break it, fix it, and own it again. You’ll ensure a product’s quality by making sure it performs as users expect it to. Part of the fun is how creative you can be devising ways to manipulate, crush, and sabotage software into submission—while creating innovative testing technologies along the way.
Ultimately, as an SDET intern it’s your input that can help make the difference between joy and frustration for the customers. Since you’re keen on how things work, and making them work better, you’ll work hand in hand with the Program Managers and Software Development Engineers to design, develop, and maintain automation systems for use in development and testing cycles. Using the tools you create, you’ll help pour over source code for trouble spots, debugging and isolating problems, and executing creative tests to find new bugs while regression testing recent fixes.

Qualifications:
• Pursuing a BS/MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
• 1-2 years experience in C/C++/C#/VB.NET and experience designing and developing tool architecture preferred
• Ability to solve complex problems and write automation systems and device drivers
• Ability to author test plans and cases, conduct security and stress tests, and debug at source level after identifying, investigating, and prioritizing bugs
• Demonstrated skills in negotiation and conflict management
