Homecoming Talent Show Sign-Ups

This is just a reminder that sign-ups are coming to a close this Sunday the 23rd for the Homecoming Talent Show. We still have some slots left so make sure you send your info to umbchomecoming@gmail.com then keep your eyes open for audition info in your email.

Last year's show was a huge success and this year will be even better. We have awesome prizes like equipment, gift cards, and more. It's a great chance to show off your skills to a fun crowd. So send in your info, and don't forget, sign-ups are until the 23rd.

Dodgeball Tournament at UMBC

If you're interested in competing in a dodgeball team against other UMBC students, the time to sign up is now!

This event, which in the past has even drawn people from the Catonsville community into the competition, is one of the best events in the fall semester. Application for teams are in the RAC - inquire at the front desk.

Sign up today, the tournament is Saturday night (September 22nd).

Roya Hakakian, Author of Journey from the Land of No at UMBC

Journey from the Land of No is the book all new students read as participants in the New Student Book Experience. Roya Hakakian, the author, will be on campus Thursday, September 27, 2007. She will speak at 7:00 p.m. in the open space located on the 7^th floor of the Library. A reception and book signing will follow.

Nominate a Book for the 2008 New Student Book Experience

Have you recently read a book that you think new students should read? Has a book provoked you to think about the world in a different way? Nominate a Book for the 2008 New Student Book Experience!

Nominations are now being accepted (through October 31) for the book to be used in the Fall 2008 New Student Book Experience. Learn more at http:// www.umbc.edu/undergrad_ed/book/index.html.

Goals of the New Student Book Experience include: welcoming new students into the intellectual life of the university, providing an experience common to all incoming students, providing a connection for each participating student to at least one faculty or staff member, providing students with an active learning opportunity that relates to the academic expectations of the campus, and creating an opportunity for critical thinking and ethical engagement.

Undergraduate Research Introductory Workshop

Spades Tournament sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers and BROTHERS. It is going to be on Tuesday Oct. 2nd 2007 at Susquehanna basement. $4 in advance and $6 at the door.

Want to know what employers really think about your interviewing skills? Interested in learning how to demystify the interview process? Find all the answers in an employer mock interview. Participating companies include: Bank of America, GE, Target, Accenture Technology Solutions, and Northrop Grumman. Wednesday, October 3rd - 12-2 pm.
