International Education Week

Did you know that the week of November 12-16 is International Education Week? The US State Department has designated this week as a time to recognize the important role that international students and international experiences play on our campus. As contact person for a campus club or organization that may be host to international students, the International Education Services Office, in correlation with the English Language Center and Undergraduate Admissions Office, would like to invite you to help us enrich the week's events with your participation!

Monday, November 12: A formal reception will be held. We need a few groups to prepare a formal, cultural performance for this event.

Tuesday, November 13: International Film Festival! We need groups who would like to sponsor a foreign film to be featured this day as well as possibly throughout the week. Groups would need to nominate a film as well as be present for the viewing.

Wednesday, November 14: Study abroad. If you are interested in participating in a panel discussion or other study abroad showcase after having studied abroad yourself, please contact Brian Souders at souders@umbc.edu.

Thursday, November 15: Lecture Series-Lectures will be from faculty, staff and alumni who are using their international experience in the U.S. as well as from international students who plan to take American experience back to their home country. Please let us know if you have any ideas!

Friday, November 16: International Festival, including banquet, performances and dance. This is truly your night! This evening will be completely created by you, members of the UMBC international community! We are looking for groups interested in sponsoring food (whether by preparing a cultural dish or finding restaurant sponsorship in the area), preparing performances for the festival, or deejaying the dance. Performances can be creative: anything from dances, songs and music, to fashion shows, to martial arts demonstrations, etc. We ask that these events focus on other cultures or the contributions international students make to US culture. We are also looking for groups interested in heading up committees within this event. For example, someone to oversee refreshments or decorations. Please get involved and help us learn more about the beauty and excitement of another culture!

Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18: International Sports events! Please let us know if your group would like to host a game or lesson on an international sport!
