Journalist, Author Mark Hyman Speaks at UMBC Regarding Excesses in Youth Sports

BALTIMORE -- Mark Hyman, author of the book Until It Hurts: America's Obsession with Youth Sports and How It Harms Our Kids (published this month by Beacon Press), will speak at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County at noon April 22.

Hyman will deliver his talk in Room 102 of the Mathematics/Psychology building.

Hyman is a veteran sports writer who covers the business of sports for Business Week magazine. He is also the author of Confessions of a Baseball Purist," with ESPN baseball broadcaster Jon Miller.

Hyman’s writing about sports and American popular culture has appeared in publications from the Wall Street Journal and New York Times to Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, Best Life and Child magazines. His sports commentary can also be also heard on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.”

Hyman has worked for several of America’s largest daily newspapers. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland School of Law.
