Scientific Skills Development

Scientific skills will be nurtured through a Summer Research Experience with an approved Faculty Mentor from UMBC or nearby institution.


During the ten-week research experience, participants will benefit from:

  1. A full-time 40-hours per week summer research experience with an approved faculty mentor
  2. Ethics Instruction and Laboratory Safety Training provided by NIDDK
  3. Participation in the annual NIDDK Undergraduate Scientific Session and Research Pressentations in Bethesda, Maryland August 6-8, 2008.
  4. Students residing at UMBC participate in weekly meetings with Program Director Charles Bieberich, Ph.D.
