The STEP-UP/BSURE Program at UMBC
The Short-Term Education Program for Underrepresented Persons (STEP-UP) is a summer research training program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County that was developed for talented undergraduates who are dedicated to the advancement of underrepresented groups in the sciences and mathematics. It was previously known as the Biomedical Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (BSURE).

The STEP-UP/BSURE Program at UMBC is supported by the NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, NIH) Short-term Education Program for Minority Students.

This program provides participants state-of-the-art scientific research experience to encourage consideration of biomedical research careers in areas of specific interest to the NIDDK.
