Looking for a Refund?
Once you know that a refund has been ordered,
you can check the status. Please wait 5-7 business days from the
date of the Check Request on your UMBC student account and click
HERE
to register.
Things
you should know
- You will usually receive a refund 10-14 business days from
the "Check Request" date on your student account.
Please add a few days during peak times (beginning of each semester).
- Plus loan refunds are issued to the parents and mailed to
the parent's address as provided on the Parent Plus Loan application.
A "Check Request" generally means that you will be
receiving a refund but not always.
If there is a balance on your student account or at the State
Central Collection Agency, and the funds that created the "Check
Request" can be used to pay those balances, you will see
"Check Request" on your student account but you
may not receive that refund. The refund may
be confiscated and used to pay the open charges.
Sometimes, you will have a "Check Request" on your
student account and you will
receive a refund even though you have an outstanding balance
on your account or at the State Central Collection Agency. That
is because the funds that created the "Check Request"
were probably semester-specific financial aid.
Example: You have not
paid your Winter Session charges and your Spring Stafford Loan
arrives.
The Spring *eligible
charges will be paid by the Spring Stafford Loan and the overage
will be refunded to you. Winter charges will not be paid with
your Spring Stafford Loan money. If you choose to wait for your
Spring refund to pay your Winter charges you probably will be
assessed a late fee.
* Tuition,
mandatory fees, room and board.
