Service: “Becoming a Better Waiter in the Community”
A key quality of becoming a great leader is the ability to give back or “serve” their communities. Programs in this category should focus on ideas to promote and/or increase service activities on your campus. These programs should help our customers become better “waiters” within and outside their campus communities.
Leadership: “Managing your own Diner”
The main goal of this conference is to help delegates gain skills to become better leaders on their campus. As a “manager” in your own residential hall community, it is important to assist others in becoming great leaders, grow your personal leadership skills, and learn some new leadership traits along the way. Programs in this category should focus on team building, time management, effective communication, as well as others.
Diversity (Multi-cultural exploration): “Sharing One Table”
What makes UMBC so special is our dedication to diversity. UMBC is the top of most diverse universities in the U.S., and our aim is for the CAACURH 2006 Conference to also maintain that strong commitment to diversity. This involves the submission of programs that promote discussion and exploration of social issues such as race, gender, ethnicity, LGBT, religion as well as others. These programs will provide an open environment in which each “customer” can explore new ideas in hopes of creating a community in which different cultures can “share one table”.
Personal Growth: “Chicken Soup for the Cougar Soul”
When delegates enter this conference, we strive for them to be “hungry” for knowledge and ideas that will help them cultivate into individuals who are stronger academically, mentally, as well as socially. Programs in this category will help feed this hunger and should focus on issues such as study habits, balancing social involvement with academics and life after college among others.
Recognition: “Tipping your Waiter”
Do you feel that there are leaders in your community who implement countless programs, but never seem to be recognized? Want to learn about new ways to encourage and reward your residential leaders? Then this program category is for you! Programs in this area are designed to share ideas in increasing recognition in your community.
