Message from the Dean (continued) At the heart of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are its faculty members, committed and effective teachers and productive, award-winning scholars who teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and engage in a variety of distinguished research and other creative work. Faculty members have won numerous prestigious fellowships, awards, and research grants from such organizations as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Fulbright Scholars Program, and they have been awarded some of the most important honors and distinctions in their own disciplines. Articles and books published by faculty members in the College put them at the forefront of their fields-not just in the United States but around the world-and the arts departments and centers have also won national and international recognition for their creative activities. Our undergraduate as well as our graduate students are involved in significant published research under the mentorship of our faculty. Departmental links will take you to further information on faculty members in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. I encourage prospective
students to browse our website and to direct inquiries to specific departments,
to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions,
or to the Graduate School.
We offer generous scholarship support for outstanding entering students
at the undergraduate level in the arts (Linehan
Artist Scholars Program), the humanities (the Humanities
Scholars Program), the social sciences (the Sondheim
Public Affairs Scholars Program), and Education
(The Homer and Martha Gudelsky Scholarships, and others). Information
about these scholarship programs and other sources of financial aid can
be found via links on this website as well as from the Office
of Undergraduate Admissions. Students can also take advantage of a
variety of internships, which often lead to employment, and other co-curricular
activities. Our undergraduate students go on to graduate and professional
study at the highest rate among University System of Maryland campuses-and
they go to programs in some of the most distinguished universities in
this country and abroad. Graduate
Assistantships are available for students in our Master's and Ph.D.
programs. The Dean's Office will also be glad to assist you in any way
we can, and we would be delighted to hear from you.
