Associate Director at CASPR
The Center for Advanced Studies in Photonics Research (CASPR) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) function is to foster advanced photonics research and technology development in the areas of optical communications, optical sensing and devices, biophotonics, nanophotonics, and quantum optics in an effort to mutually support the needs of government, industry, and scientific progress.
UMBC is seeking an Associate Director for CASPR. The position will be of a non-tenured faculty rank of Associate Research Scientist. The Associate Director will assist the Director in obtaining external funds to support the research mission of CASPR through federal and state funding agencies as well as private and industrial sources. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with the members of CASPR. The applicant will be required to formulate and provide expert scientific and technical ideas for collaborative research directions and proposals. In addition, the Associate Director will prepare reports for funding agencies and UMBC Administration as needed. The applicant will be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Director of CASPR.
The applicant must possess a PhD in the Physical Sciences or Engineering with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience. A history of research experience in optics and photonics research and development fields is essential. The applicant should possess exceptional oral and written communications skills. The candidate is expected to have a successful record in securing funding for research.
