Research Interests:
General area of ultrafast optics and optoelectronics - the ultrafast photophysics and nonlinear optical properties of bulk, nanoclustered, and quantum well semiconductor structures, ultrashort pulse propagation in fibers and high-speed lightwave systems –nearly 70 refereed publications, 2 book chapters and 4 US patents.

  • AMJ is one of 6 six scientists highlighted in an educational interactive video designed for elementary school children called Minorities in Science which was partially funded by NSF during its origins circa 1994.
 
  • AMJ is the Principle Investigator of the $1.7Million NSF Informal Science Education Grant entitled “Hands-On Optics: Making an Impact with Light.” This program targets middle school students and is designed to inspire an interest in technology by bringing optics-related activities into after-school science programs.
