Tryouts: Medical Screening
Just like all the other varsity sports at UMBC, every member of our team has to get cleared by UMBC Sports Medicine in order to be able to practice/perform.
Students wishing to tryout for UMBC Varsity Cheerleading for Fall 2012-Spring 2013 season must do one of the following:
- Get screened and cleared by the Sports Medicine Doctor prior to tryouts; or
- Fill out our Pre-Tryout Paperwork/Waiver and then get screened and cleared after making the team. You will not be allowed to practice or attend UCA camp without being cleared.
It is highly recommended that you get cleared prior to tryouts. To get cleared you must:
- Complete all the Medical Screening paperwork* then schedule a time to be screened by the Sports Medicine Doctor, which can be a challenge as he/she is only available at select sporting events and one day a week in the Sports Medicine Office.
If you are unable to get cleared before tryouts you still need to complete the Pre-Tryout Paperwork/Waiver and submit it proir to tryouts. To obtain the Pre-Tryout Paperwork/Waiver please email slbriscoe@comcast.net.
* If you already had a physical exam within the last 6-months you can have your doctor transpose the previous physical's information onto the UMBC physical form, including the date the previous physical was performed.
* If you need to get a physical exam on campus, you can go to University Health Services (UHS). Depending on your insurance plan/provider a physical at UHS could cost $60-$100. So check with your insurance first, you may be able to go to a local CVS, doctor or hostipal covered under your insurance for cheaper than UHS.
