The analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis laboratories at UMBC provide the opportunity to learn about both conventional and cutting edge techniques and instrumentation. Students learn both fundamental techniques for the accurate quantification of chemical species of interest as well as how to apply these techniques to the analysis of real-world samples. In the advanced instrumental analysis laboratory, hands-on experience and training are gained on state-of-the-art instrumentation such as high performance liquid chromatography systems, mass spectrometers, electrochemical workstations and optical spectroscopic equipment, while analyzing biological and environmentally relevant samples.
