After a tremendous and overwhelming success of Probability & Statistics Day held at UMBC in 2007, we plan to hold the 2nd Annual Prob/Stat Day at UMBC on Saturday, April 26, 2008. The main goal of this special one day conference is to promote scientific awareness in general and discuss contemporary probabilistic and statistical issues in particular. The conference is open to all local university faculty/grad students as well as to statisticians employed in the government agencies and private industries. Women and minority statisticians are especially encouraged to attend. The conference will be held in Lecture Halls 7 & 8 and Rooms 237 & 239 of the ITE building at UMBC.

We are fortunate to have three internationally renowned statisticians as plenary speakers for Saturday's conference.

  1. Professor Malay Ghosh, Distinguished Professor of Statistics, University of Florida
    Title: An Introduction to Case-Control Studies

  2. Professor Lynne Stokes, Professor of Statistics, Southern Methodist University
    Title: The Search for a Cause: Why are our 12th Graders Not Improving on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)?

  3. Dr. Robert Bell, Research Statistician, AT&T
    Title: Advances in Collaborative Filtering

Additionally, there will be regular invited and contributed talks, and oral and poster presentations by graduate students from local universities. Certificates and cash awards will be offered to a few best oral and poster student presenters.
