The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at UMBC will hold the 5th Annual P/S Day at UMBC during April 22-23, 2011. In April 2010 the department organized the 4th Annual P/S Day at UMBC along with a celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the Foundation of the Statistics Graduate Program at UMBC!

The program this year will consist of a half-day workshop on Friday afternoon and a full day conference on Saturday. Friday's workshop will be presented by Dr. Russel Wolfinger and Dr. Kelci Miclaus of SAS Institute, Inc.. Saturday's conference will feature three internationally renowned statisticians as plenary/keynote speakers.

Saturday's conference will also include an invited session of five international speakers: Professor J.T. Mexia (Portugal), Professor M. Fonseca (Portugal), Professor R. Zmyslony (Poland), Professor G. Knapp (Germany) and Professor A. Hussein (Canada). This special invited session will by chaired by Dr. Arvind Shah (USA).

Additionally, there will be oral and poster presentations by graduate students from UMBC and other local universities. A special feature of P/S Day at UMBC 2011 is that the conference, including the workshop, is open to all statistics graduate students from UMBC and local universities free of charge, but registration is required! Certificates and cash prizes will be awarded to three best oral and three best poster presentations by the graduate students.

The P/S Day at UMBC 2011 conference is open to statisticians from all local universities, government agencies and private industries. Friday's workshop is free of charge, but registration is required! There will be a registration fee of $30 for Saturday’s conference, which will include breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks. There will be a banquet dinner on Saturday night, featuring Dr. Lawrence H. Cox, Assistant Director for Official Statistics, National Institute of Statistical Sciences, as the banquet speaker.
Cost of banquet is $30.
