1972Ronald A. Silkworth, American studies, is an associate judge for the Circuit Court of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, Md. He and his wife, Theresa, have five children: Susan (age 38), Rhonda (age 33), Amey (age 32), Rebecca (age 20) and Ronald (age 17). They live in Severna Park, Md.1975Graeme C. Payne, political science, is president of GK Systems, Inc. in Lilburn, Ga. He recently was named chairperson of the American Society for Quality's Measurement Quality Division. His wife, Karen, is CFO of GK Systems, Inc.1976Cheryl Moss, American studies, is director of Columbia Academy in Ellicott City, Md. Her husband, Bill Moss '77, psychology and social work, is executive director of Linwood Center. They have three children, Sarah (age 22), Michael (age 19) and Matthew (age 17), and live in Clarksville, Md.Thomas M. Wrublewski, geography and environmental systems, is GOES-N series technical acquisition manager for a series of weather/environmental satellites expected to launch later this year through the United States Department of Commerce NOAA. She and her husband, Walter, live in Baltimore.Jeffrey H. DuBois, biological sciences, recently opened a new dental practice in Tucson, Ariz., serving the infant to teenager population. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children. 1980Kathleen Warnock, interdisciplinary studies, is an editor with John Wiley & Sons in New York. Her new full-length play, ėGrieving for Genevieve,î received its world premiere at the Midtown International Theater Festival in New York City in July 2005, presented by En Avant Playwrights. He and his wife, Christine, have two children, Cicely and Julian. They attended UMBC Night at Camden Yards in June and said it was "refreshing talking with recent grads and hearing their stories of UMBC and their takes on life in general."1985Mary Jo Werner Tracey, political science, is a store manager for the Rite Aid Corporation. She recently married Robert Tracey. They live in Westminster, Md.Michele Herbst Trieb, sociology and information systems, is a research analyst for the Center for Health Program Development & Management at UMBC. She and her husband, Matthew, have two children, Hannah (age 15) and Zachary (age 12), and live in Reisterstown, Md. 1987Tracy McGowan Hartmann, interdisciplinary studies, is an assistant preschool teacher at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia. She and her husband, Joseph, and their two children, Sara (age 9) and Hannah (age 8), live in Annandale, Va.1988DeBora M. Ricks, political science, is self-employed as an attorney and author. She recently published a book entitled Love Addicted: One Woman's Spiritual Journey Through Emotional Dependency. She lives in Baltimore.Ronald D. He works on the Deutsche Bank Alex.Brown account. 1990Lee V. Holland, biological sciences, is a specialist in magnet programs for Baltimore County Public Schools and a mortician with the William C. March Funeral Home in Baltimore.Milton Otis Jones Jr., economics, is a production control manager for General Motors in Flint, Mich. He and his wife, Shannon, live with their son, Jayson (age 10), in Southfield, Mich. Johanna Cabanilla Licharowicz, economics, is finance director for Friends of the Family. She and her husband, James Licharowicz '01, mechanical engineering, and their daughter, Jennifer (age 20), live in Baltimore. Jennifer is currently a student at UMBC. 1991Dawn Alfreda Hollingsworth-Briscoe, psychology, teaches third grade for the Frederick County Board of Education. She and her husband, Irvin, welcomed a baby girl, Lalah Symone, on July 25, 2005. They, along with their son, Tre (age 5), live in New Market, Md.1992Roxanne Uhl Elling, health science and policy, is a staff nurse with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. She married her husband, Donald, in 2001 and gave birth to son Connor (age 1) in November 2003. They live on Long Island.Donnetta L. Miller Horseman, health science and policy, is manager of corporate compliance informatics for MedStar Health, Inc. in Columbia, Md. She and her husband, Jim, live in Baltimore with their three children, James (age 12), Jesse (age 8) and Savannah (age 3). Felice Pinkney, information systems, is an information technology specialist for the United States Department of Justice. She welcomed a son, Chance O. Pinkney, on January 18, 2004. She lives in Upper Marlboro, Md. Cynthia Rankin, modern languages and linguistics, operates an intercultural corporate communications training business in Madras, South India, with her husband, Stephen. She writes that her UMBC education helped her start the business. "Thank God I kept all my old notes and books," she writes. "They have survived the climate here, which is like August in Baltimore all year long." Heather A. Cook Woodie, biological sciences, is a stay-at-home mom after teaching biology and general science in Carroll County for five years. She and her husband, Daniel, live in Groton, N.Y., with their four children, Ethan Michael (age 6), Rebecca Grace (age 5), Isaac David (age 3) and Joshua Tennyson (age 2 months). 1994Lyle Dean Hockenberry, geography and environmental systems, see Gloria Stamato Hockenberry '95.Megan Malchack O'Brien, biological sciences, recently was discharged from the United States Army after serving as a pediatrician for seven years. She spent four months in Iraq, and is now staying at home with her children, Michael (age 4) and Emma (age 1), while her husband, Seth, completes Army training at Duke University in Durham, NC. 1995Nancy Fredine, M.A. and '05 Ph.D. human services psychology, is a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University. She has one daughter, Isabel (age 5).Blairlee Meade Hawes, history, is a therapist with the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County where she works with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. She recently completed her master's in pastoral counseling at Loyola College in Maryland. She has one child, Kathryn Page (age 7). Gloria Stamato Hockenberry, economics, is a senior consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton in Eatontown, N.J. She and her husband, Lyle Dean Hockenberry, geography and environmental systems '94, a perfusionist with Jersey Shore University Medical Center, live in Howell, N.J., with their sons, Andrew (age 3) and Anthony (age 1). Sandra Wittlake, English, is a national executive practice administrator for KPMG Corporate Finance in Baltimore. Antonio Womack, philosophy, is CEO of CIMG Development, a real estate development company he founded with his wife, Kimberly, who works as an analyst with the company. They live in Owings Mills, Md. 1996Stacey-Ann Robotham Baugh, psychology, is a school psychologist with Baltimore City Public Schools. She and her husband, Stefan, recently welcomed a second child, Sebastian, on March 25, 2005. They live, along with their daughter, Sydney (age 3), in Olney, Md.Stephanie A. Cipko Kalck, health science and policy, is a senior credentialing associate with Helix Family Choice in Baltimore and also an educational consultant with Discovery Toys. She and her husband, Michael, a paramedic/firefighter with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, live in Jarrettsville, Md., with their daughters, Kathryn Elizabeth (age 3) and Meghan Riley (born January 24, 2005). Stephanie writes, "I miss all my Phi Mu sisters!" Mechelle L. Kerns-Nocerito, ancient studies and '99 M.A. history, completed her Ph.D. in maritime studies at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, in 2004. She recently was appointed to the faculty at the University of Maryland University College after working as an adjunct there and at Prince George's Community College for a year. Vikki Valentine, English, recently had an article entitled "An American in London, Watching Brits 'Press On'" on National Public Radio online. She is pursuing a master's degree in the history of medicine in London. 1997Robert Bonnette, computer science, see Kimberly G. Waters Bonnette '99.Kristen Kachurak Foye, biological sciences, is a clinical site manager with the Bristol Myers Squibb Company in Wallingford, Conn. She and her husband, James Foye '97, visual and performing arts, a staff writer for the Woodshop News, live in New Haven, Conn. Darroll A. Screen, information systems, is a special assistant with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He plans to pursue an M.B.A. at Trinity University in Washington next spring. 1998Alyce James-Bell, health science and policy, is a consultant with IBM. She was married to Dondrake Bell in May 2005. They live in Bowie, Md.Robert Petrucci, M.S. emergency health services, is an instructor with the Community College of Southern Nevada. He lives in Las Vegas. Selena Reames, psychology, owns an on-site chair massage business called Break for Massage. She and her husband, Mark Janney, welcomed a girl, Leila Jolie, in November 2004. 1999Kimberly G. Waters Bonnette, computer science, owns KGB Media Consulting in Baltimore. She and her husband, Robert Bonnette '97, computer science, an actuary for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, welcomed their first child, Dahlia Ann, on June 13, 2005.David Christopher Johnson, visual and performing arts, is the assistant location manager for "Flags of Our Fathers," a new film from director Clint Eastwood. He also worked on the movie "Million Dollar Baby." He lives in Santa Monica, Calif. 2001Erica Ashton, English, is a managing editor with Career Communications Group, Inc., in Baltimore, Md.David L. Lebowitz, emergency health services, is director of emergency health services for the Erickson Corporation. He lives in Elkridge, Md. James Licharowicz, mechanical engineering, see Johanna Cabanilla Licharowicz '90. Matt Siegel, computer science and '03 M.S. computer science, is a software developer for Muze, Inc., in New York. He lives in New York City. Adele Poynor Torigoe, physics, is a Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She married fellow Ph.D. candidate Eugene Torigoe on May 28, 2005 in Lancaster, Pa. Her wedding party included Danielle James '01, Millicent Thomas '01 and Raygan Harris '00. Haibo Wang, M.S. chemistry, is a doctor at the Queen Mary Hospital, at the University of Hong Kong. 2002James Butler, M.S. computer science, co-wrote a book entitled Rootkits: Subverting the Windows Kernel, that recently was published by Addison-Wesley. He is director of engineering at HBGary.Rithy Chhay, computer science, see Lauren Renee Boudra Chhay '03. Robert Hanyok, M.A. history, was featured in a New York Times article in July about his study, "Eavesdropping on Hell," a study of possible intelligence gaps missed by the United States government during World War II. He is a historian with the National Security Agency's Center for Cryptologic History. Rachel Ford Hutman, history, is a claims manager with Progressive Insurance. She and her husband, Mike, recently moved to Coconut Creek, Fla., where she enjoys writing in her spare time. Lauren Lynn, American studies, is a teacher with Calvert County Schools. She received her M.S. degree from Towson University in 2004. She lives in Upper Marlboro, Md. Jessica Rodriguez, biological sciences and modern languages and linguistics, is diversity marketing coordinator for GMAC in Rocky Hill, Conn. 2003Lauren Renee Boudra Chhay, biochemistry and molecular biology, was married to Rithy Chhay '02, computer science, in two days of ceremonies, April 29 and 30, 2005, that celebrated both of their family backgrounds.Katherine Elizabeth Cox, American studies, is a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband, Matthew Aaron Cox '03, mathematics, a math teacher with Howard County Public Schools, welcomed a baby girl, Reilly Katherine, on August 3, 2005. They live in Sykesville, Md. Bindu Khurana, social work and psychology, is a social worker with Triple L Group Homes in San Diego, Calif. She completed her M.A. in marital and family therapy at the University of San Diego in May 2005. Antoinette LoSchiavo, anthropology, began master's work in applied sociology at UMBC this fall. Robert Joshua Reyes, history, is a historian/interpreter with the National Park Service, Department of the Interior, in Oyster Bay, NY. Mark Stewart, psychology and '04 environmental science, is a teacher with Howard County Public Schools and a member of the UMBC Alumni Association board of directors. Pamela Jean Godwin Wellman, American studies, is a teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools. She and her husband, George, live in Essex, Md. 2004Lindsay Amos, psychology, teaches sixth-grade science for Howard County Public Schools. She lives in Olney, Md.Crystal Beveridge, political science, is a salesperson for Remax Vision. She lives in Stevensville, Md. 2005Patrick Arnold, history, is pursuing a master's in historical studies at UMBC. He spoke to the New Hampshire Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution in Manchester, N.H., about family history and civic participation in September.Megan Oursler, psychology, spent the summer playing softball for the Karlslund IF Eagles, a minor league team in Sweden. She also helped coach a senior league as well as young players during her stay. Cherilyn Louise Mae Pardee, biological sciences, is living in Newbury Park, Calif. Tyecia Powell, English, is an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Darcie Rothwell, political science, is living in Elkton, Md. Scott Sauer, chemistry, is pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry at Duke University. Dr. Mantle L. Hood, founder of UMBC's department of ethnomusicology, died July 31, 2005 at his Ellicott City home from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. He was 87. A pioneer in the subject of ethnomusicology, Dr. Hood taught at UCLA before founding the ethnomusicology department at UMBC in 1980. He taught at UMBC for 16 years, acting also as a visiting professor at Harvard, Yale, Wesleyan and numerous other universities. An author and musician, Dr. Hood was also fluent in six languages. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Chung, four sons and three grandchildren. His sons Mitro and Made graduated from UMBC in 1989 and 1992, respectively. |
