University Counseling Services staff are legally and ethically required to keep the information clients share with us confidential.  As a result, both your attendance at UCS and any information you share in counseling will not be revealed to anyone (family, faculty/staff, friends, etc.) outside of UCS unless you provide written permission to do so.  The rare exceptions include a) when there is clear and imminent danger that someone's life is at risk, b) in the case of apparent or suspected abuse of a child or dependent adult, or c) under enforceable court order.  In any of these circumstances, your counselor will likely discuss the situation with you prior to taking appropriate action.

A note on email communications:
We take the privacy of your communications with us very seriously. While we do everything in our power to maintain your privacy, it is important for you to know that we cannot guarantee confidentiality with email communications.  As a result, we encourage you to contact us by phone or in person if you would prefer to maintain your privacy.
