Creating Global Transformation: Women & ICT

(See also CWIT's October 2005 UN panel)

On March 7, 2005, with the support and direction of Ambassador Ellen Sauerbrey, CWIT brought together national and international leaders representing business, education, and non-government sectors to address the various ways in which ICTs are making a difference in the lives of women, their families and communities. The program took place in the Dag Hammarsköld Library Auditorium at the United Nations in New York.

The presentation was intended to serve as a follow-up to the goals set by the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in its Agreed Conclusions of March 14th 2003. Specifically, the Commission stated that "globally, there are substantial differences in participation in, access to and use of media and information and communications technologies (ICTs), their content and production." The Commission concluded that "Media and ICT offer tools for enhancing women's full access to the benefits of information and new technologies and can become central tools for women's empowerment and the promotion of gender equality."

CWIT is a global resource for women and information and communication technologies.
