CWIT Partners With Carnegie Mellon University to Provide CS Training for Teachers

The Center for Women and Information Technology has partnered with Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science Department and a program for women at CMU entitled Women @ SCS to help high school teachers encourage girls' (and boys') full participation in Computer Science. Over 60 teachers participated in the new Computer Science for High Schools (CS4HS) program at Carnegie Mellon. The 3-day summer workshop, held July 21-24, 2006, disseminated curriculum modules that high school AP computer science instructors can implement in the classroom. These modules acquaint students with the versatility and applicability of the programming skills they have learned throughout the school year. Educators can use the modules to show students that computer science is much more than computer programming.

More information is available at the CS4HS web page.
