Listed below are some organizations and e-mail lists designed primarily for women in the Baltimore/Washington area who are interested in information technology:

Association for Women in Computing, Baltimore Chapter

With over 45 members, the Baltimore chapter offers separate e-mail lists for members and non-members, as well as monthly meetings that highlight speakers and discussion, networking opportunities, mentoring and scholarships. Monthly meetings usually occur the third week of the month, on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. The annual membership fee is $35, or $25 for students and seniors.

This chapter is open to students, faculty, staff, and alumnae of Johns Hopkins University. The chapter holds monthly evening meetings. The web site offers more information, both about the chapter and about local resources.

Baltimore Web Women

Baltimore Web Women is a group of women in the Baltimore area that supports women in technology, i.e., in web design, web administration, network administration, programming, graphic design, electronic art, and anything to do with the Internet. Through the group's email list, members can share information about technology, provide each other help with day-to-day technical problems, and to help mentor, encourage and support all women in technology.

CAPITOLWIT, affiliated with WorldWIT, is an e-mail list for women in technology in the greater Washington DC area. Its members use the list for technology questions, networking, job postings, contracting opportunities, tips, job advice, and more. DC Web Women, with over 3600 members, focuses on new media. Its website is full of helpful information, including instructions on how to subscribe to its very active e-mail list, a calendar of monthly meetings and workshops, and an extensive FAQ, which covers the following areas: software, ISP, graphics and fonts, site management, markup programming and scripting, various online activities, education and careers, reference, and hardware.
