Installation:

In order to install Microsoft Forefront on your UMBC Campus Office PC you will need to have administrative privileges on the PC in question. If you do not have administrative privileges please submit a support request to have DoIT staff install the software for you. If you are currently using the DoIT provided McAfee Anti-Virus, you can upgrade to Microsoft Forefront by simply running the installer. Forefront will cleanly replace the McAfee Anti-Virus during the installation as detailed below.

To install Microsoft Forefront, first download the installation files from the link above. The files are contained within a .ZIP archive, you will need to unzip them before installing Forefront(This can be achieved through free software such as WinZip or WinRAR, if you do not have an unzipping tool already installed on your PC). Before installing Forefront please shutdown/close any other software programs you were working with.  After unzipping the installation files, begin installing Forefront by right-clicking on the file "install.bat" contained within the extracted folder and select "Run as Administrator" from the options. Forefront will begin to install quietly in the background; this process may take a few minutes to complete. When the process is complete all of the installation windows will close, and the green Forefront Icon will appear in your PCs system tray(lower right hand corner).

Updates:

Microsoft Forefront will update itself automatically. The above download link will periodically be updated when new versions of the client are released.
