UMBC’s Division of Professional Studies offers a broad array of professionally focused master’s degrees, graduate certificates, individual courses and non-degree training programs. The quality, diversity, and flexibility of these education and training programs make it possible for students to pursue their educational goals, whether for professional advancement, personal enrichment, or an academic credential.
Division of Professional Studies programs:
- Seek the continuous input and counsel of Industrial Advisory Boards to ensure program
content meets the demands of the current market and anticipate future opportunities
- Engage top UMBC faculty, industry experts, and distinguished professionals and thought leaders to teach courses and advise students
- Deliver courses and training in modern, state-of-the-art learning centers with small
classrooms, and leading edge technology
- Focus on student success, providing opportunities to participate in research projects
and engage in professional internships through The Shriver Center, and to obtain career
guidance and support from the UMBC Career Development Center
The Division develops and delivers customized, closed-cohort programs on site, including the special
Education partnership program for working teachers offered in five area counties. It also offers a select
number of online courses and programs, many in a hybrid format that integrate on-line learning with
classroom instruction to ensure an optimal balance of learning, personal interaction, quality instruction,
and time management.
The Division of Professional Studies currently offers programs and courses at 4 locations, including the
UMBC campus, BWTech South Campus, Columbia, and the Universities at Shady Grove in suburban
