Emergency Scholarly Support Fund

This fund, supplied by a one-time DRIF award to the Dresher Center for the Humanities from the Office of the Vice-President for Research in the summer of 2008 and capped at $5k annually, is intended to provide support to UMBC full-time faculty or Ph.D. students in the humanities who have already exhausted all departmental and CAHSS Travel Fund and publication subvention support.  A sum of up to $500 max. on an annual basis can be requested by any full-time faculty member or Ph.D. student in the humanities who has already applied for and received all available departmental and CAHSS Dean’s funds for research travel or publication subventions.  Applications should be submitted with a letter from the Dept. chair, or GPD in the case of Ph.D. students, to assure that all dept. and Grad School or Dean’s Funds have been tapped first.

Faculty or Ph.D. students wishing to apply should prepare a letter of need explaining the purpose for the funds and the precise amount and why this Scholarly Support Fund would make a difference in the scholarly goals of the applicant.  Reference should also be made to why no other departmental or College support is available/or sufficient for this need.  Until the chair’s or GPD’s letter is received the application cannot be considered by the Dresher Center Advisory Board.  Once the application is complete, all efforts will be made to decide on the application within two weeks.
