The program is designed to give students flexibility in the choice of the five courses, though at least two of them must be in economics. The electives must be at the 400 level or above and courses from other departments and campuses can be used to fulfill this requirement. However, the electives chosen must be approved by the Economic Policy Analysis Graduate Committee.
Students will choose an advisor when they enter the M.A. program, and, sometime during their second semester, meet with their advisors to develop a set possible elective courses that fit their particular interests. The student will then submit this set of possible electives to the Economic Policy Analysis Graduate Committee for approval. With the approval of the Committee, students may revise thier package of possible elective courses at any time.
While students in consultation with their advisors can choose any appropriate set of elective courses, we have developed a list of possible areas of concentration to guide students in the choice of elective courses. This list is not exhaustive, nor is it binding. Students interested in one of the following areas may want to select some or all their electives from the listed courses. Or, they may work with their faculty advisors to develop their own specific package.
