GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS - 2007/08
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, UMBC
 
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, BALTIMORE COUNTY, Department of Education invites applications for graduate assistant positions in education for the 2007/08 academic year. A full-time graduate assistant is expected to work twenty hours a week from August 15, 2007 to June 15, 2008. Occasionally 1/2 year appointments are available. A graduate assistant is expected to register for a minimum of six credits of course work or thesis research each semester but may take up to ten semester hours each fall or spring with tuition remitted. Tuition remission does not apply to summer and winter classes. Current UMBC Department of Education Graduate Assistants must reapply for positions within the department each year and must compete with the pool of new applicants.
 
Types of Graduate Assistant Positions in the Department available at this time:
  • Assistant to the Department Chair
  • Assistants to program coordinators (Elementary Education & Early Childhood)
  • Assistant for internship placements
  • Assistant for PDS coordination
  • Assistant for Departmental technology
Responsibilities:
Duties, which will depend on the specific position and the background of the applicant, may include any of the following:
  • Maintaining program and departmental records and data bases
  • Maintaining communication with applicants to Departmental programs
  • Working on projects related to research and program evaluation
  • Assisting the department with maintaining student data
  • Computer Data Input and Management
  • Planning and facilitating departmental events and meetings
Required Qualification
  • Full admission to UMBC Graduate School with a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Preferably two semesters away from Phase II of internship (if applicable).
  • For some positions, preference given to applicants seeking graduate degrees in UMBC Education Programs

Compensation:
Graduate assistants receive a stipend of $11,324 per academic year (2007/2008), up to 10 graduate credits with tuition remission, and an individual health benefit.

Please state whether you are interested in a full or half year appointment and when you intend to begin your internship (if applicable). Applications must be received by April 20, 2007 to be given full consideration. Interviews will be conducted during the week of April 23 to 27.
