Sarah J. Shin is Professor of Education and Co-Director of the M.A. TESOL Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She specializes in bilingualism, heritage language education, and TESOL teacher training. She is the author of Bilingualism in Schools and Society: Language, Identity, and Policy (Routledge, 2013) and Developing in Two Languages: Korean Children in America (Multilingual Matters, 2005). She serves on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Language, Identity, and Education and The International Multilingual Research Journal. At UMBC, Dr. Shin teaches courses in theory and practice of second language instruction, including methods in teaching reading and writing, bilingualism, and linguistics. She is also an Affiliate Professor in the Language, Literacy, and Culture Ph.D. Program.
