Elementary/Middle Science
  • For experienced elementary and middle school teachers who want to increase their understanding of science content
  • MAE degree program with focus on teacher research and leadership
  • Content includes all major disciplines of science
  • Content courses are appropriate for Elementary/Middle school teachers
  • Content courses also include science pedagogy
Core Education Courses along with the following
Elementary/Middle School Science Courses (18 semester hours or 6 courses total)
1) SCIE 501 Physics Concepts, Principles and Applications
2) SCIE 502 Chemistry Concepts, Principles and Applications 
3) SCIE 503 Life Science Concepts, Principles and Applications
4) SCIE 504 The Environment - Chesapeake Bay and Other Ecosystems 
5) SCIE 505 Earth/Space Science Concepts, Principles and Applications 
6) SCIE 506 The Designed World
Note: Each of the above courses is 3 credit hours.

Secondary Inquiry-Based Pedagogy
  • For experienced secondary science teachers who want to increase their understanding of inquiry-based pedagogy
  • MAE degree program with focus on teacher research and leadership
  • Content is an in-depth examination of inquiry-based pedagogy
  • Content coursework involves direct applications to teachers' classrooms
Core Education Courses along with the following
Inquiry Courses (18 semester hours or 6 courses total)
1) *SCIE 531 Inquiry I
2) *SCIE 532 Inquiry II
3) *SCIE 533 Culturally Responsive Instruction in Science
4) *SCIE 539 Inquiry into Practice
5) SCIE 534 The Scientific Process 
6) SCIE 535 Inquiry and the Nature of Science
   *These courses comprise the curriculum for the Certificate in Secondary Inquiry-Based Pedagogy. 
Note: Each of the above courses is 3 credit hours.
