The elementary teacher is expected to be able to provide effective instruction in a broad array of content areas. For this reason, there are specific courses that all teacher candidates are required to take to insure sufficient content background. If chosen wisely, these courses can meet the content area requirements of the Department of Education and meet some of the General Education Program of the University as well.
