The English Language Center and UMBC offer a wide variety of student activities for our students. Our goals are to expose students to a variety of experiences in order to practice English in real-life contexts, understand culture and life in the United States, and interact with friends.
All our students are encouraged to join all educational field trips. We try to organize activities at the ELC and field trips to visit both local and out-of state places of interest. Field trips begin during the Orientation Week, when students are taken to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and explore UMBC’s campus. During each session, we schedule at least three special activities or field trips. Below is a description of some of them for 2008 and 2009. Some of these activities are subject to change.

ELC students are strongly encouraged to participate actively in these important extra-curricular activities. English is the bridge that enables students to interact and make friends with other students from many different cultural and language backgrounds.
