Professional development for English Teachers

Designed to accommodate the growing need for specialized training in ESL and EFL, the ELC offers a wide range of courses for the TESOL professional. These courses are available both on-campus and online and can be taken for graduate-level credit or continuing education units.  Courses include:

  • Teaching English to Young Learners
    Participants learn the theory and practice of teaching young learners in the EFL classroom. New approaches for teaching language within a meaningful context, making language input comprehensible and encouraging students participation are covered in this interactive course. Join an international community of TEYL teachers!
  • Writing for Teaching
    English teachers learn new strategies for improving their writing and for teaching writing with engaging classroom activities.
  • Listening and Speaking for Teaching
    English teachers and teaching professionals learn new strategies for improving their oral communication skills. Practical exercises and class activities reinforce learned strategies.
  • English Program Management and Administration
    Participants learn the theory and practice of ESOL language program administration. The course discusses strategies to foster professional development, provide in-service training, conduct clinical observation and engage in action research.
  • Educational Technology and Web 2.0 Learning
    Participants build new skills to enhance in teaching and learning of English as a second or foreign language through the use of digital communication and new media projects. A variety of instructional activities introduce participants to best practices in technology-enhanced learning and e-learning.

The ELC has developed training programs for Bi-National Centers in several Latin American countries, U.S. embassies overseas and international universities.
