
On Wednesday,
February 21, 2001, the College of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board honored
one of its members for his high standards and outstanding contributions to
the field of engineering through service, education and civic action. Gino
J. Gemignani, Jr., Senior Vice President, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company,
has been a leading figure in the construction industry throughout his 37-year
tenure at Whititing-Turner. He has supervised many high-profile projects such
as the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Bank of Virginia Headquarters (Signet
Bank) in Richmond, Va., and numerous industrial, commercial, and retail projects
throughout the United States. Mr. Gemignani established Whiting-Turner's regional
offices in California and Virginia. He has also been a tireless community
leader. He is vice chairman of the Alliance for the Mentally Handicapped,
president of the B&O Railroad Museum, co-chairman of the UMBC Presidentıs
Advisory Council, and serves on the Baltimore City Community College Foundation
and Baltimore County Economic Development Commission.
Mr. Gemignani holds an associate of arts degree in construction technology
from the Community College of Baltimore and a bachelor of science degree in
physics from Loyola College. He is also a graduate of the Greater Baltimore
Committee Leadership Program, and the Leadership Maryland Program.
Thanks to the tireless planning of the Honors and Alumni Committee, and the
contribution of a number of financial sponsors, the Awards Ceremony and Dinner
