On Wednesday, February 21, 2001, the College of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board honored one of its members for his high standards and outstanding contributions to the field of engineering through service, education and civic action. Gino J. Gemignani, Jr., Senior Vice President, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, has been a leading figure in the construction industry throughout his 37-year tenure at Whititing-Turner. He has supervised many high-profile projects such as the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Bank of Virginia Headquarters (Signet Bank) in Richmond, Va., and numerous industrial, commercial, and retail projects throughout the United States. Mr. Gemignani established Whiting-Turner's regional offices in California and Virginia. He has also been a tireless community leader. He is vice chairman of the Alliance for the Mentally Handicapped, president of the B&O Railroad Museum, co-chairman of the UMBC Presidentıs Advisory Council, and serves on the Baltimore City Community College Foundation and Baltimore County Economic Development Commission.

Mr. Gemignani holds an associate of arts degree in construction technology from the Community College of Baltimore and a bachelor of science degree in physics from Loyola College. He is also a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee Leadership Program, and the Leadership Maryland Program.

Thanks to the tireless planning of the Honors and Alumni Committee, and the contribution of a number of financial sponsors, the Awards Ceremony and Dinner was a complete success. Check the College's "What's New" page this summer for information on the 2002 Engineer/Computer Scientist of the Year.
