Short Biographical Sketch

Dr. Banton was born in Jamaica where he attended Manchester High School prior to immigrating to the United States and becoming a naturalized citizen. Dr. Rohan Banton received his B.S. degree in Physics from Lincoln University in 1987, and a M. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1991. He joined the doctoral program at UMBC as part time student in 1996 and became a full time student in the Fall of 1999 when he began his research project that involved studying the dynamic response of cellular membrane to fluid forces. This work resulted in two article that are currently in review and was presented by Dr. Banton at meetings of the American Physical Society and the Biomedical Engineering Society. In June 2003 Dr. Banton joined the Weapons and Material Research Directorate of the Army Research Lab in Aberdeen , MD , and is currently undergoing training before joining a research program.
