Short Biographical Sketch

Dr. Centala received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Bangalore University, India(1985) and a MS in Production Systems Engineering from the Mysore University(1991). In between, he was working as a Design and Planning Engineer for multi-National Cutting Tool Industry. After his MS, he served as Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the Bangalore University. In 1993, he joined the graduate program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He obtained a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. He completed his Ph.D. degree in 1998, while conducting research in experimental mechanics and modeling of the mechanical responses and damage mechanisms in S2-Glass reinforced woven composites. Dr. Centala joined Smith International, Inc Inc. in June 1997 as a Senior Project Engineer. He is currently the Manager of R&D group and the focus of his current work is in the area of Oil & Gas Drilling.
