Short Biographical Sketch

Dr. Salunkhe was born on July 15, 1970 in Maharastra, India. He received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune, India in 1992. He went on to receive an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in 1994 and a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 also from UMBC under the supervision of Professor Uri Tasch. Dr. Salunkhe received an MBA degree in 2001 from Marquette University. He is currently the Manager of the Software Engineering, Magnetic Resonance Division of the General Electric Medical Systems Corporation. He is the leader of the software engineering division both in the United States and India focusing on developing cutting edge Magnetic Resonance software application for a 1.3 billion dollar modality. Recently, Dr. Salunhke’s team developed and delivered a specialized software application that enabled businesses to gain over 4 point market share in the relatively short one year period. The above remarkable accomplishment was partly due to Dr. Salunkhe’s strong work ethic which is reflected in his belief that “there is no substitute for hard work.” Dr. Salunhke is married to his wife Ashwini with two children, Mihir a two year old and Avani a newly arrived five month old.
