The Mechanical Engineering Program leading to the B.S. degree consists of four sequences of courses which satisfy the ABET accreditation requirements. The courses are supplemented by certain professionally oriented extracurricular activities along with general University-wide activities in which students are encouraged to participate for the purpose of rounding out their overall educational experience.

Mini Baja Project

UMBC undergraduates work with faculty members to design, build, and, race an all-terrain vehicle in the "Mini-Baja" competition. The Mini-Baja group uses the same software as Ford Motor Company to model and analyze the vehicle.

As they gear up for the national race (held in June 2004 in Milwaukee), the UMBC team has an added edge this year - real-world experience from one of the top technology and engineering companies in the nation - Lockheed Martin. The team has also received support and sponsorship from Black and Decker, Siemens Building Technologies and UMBC mechanical engineering professor Uri Tasch .

According to Dr Panos Charalambides , chair of mechanical engineering at UMBC, the Mini-Baja experience is impressive to employers.

The mini-baja experience is a great way for mechanical engineering students to apply lessons from the classroom to the real world.

Professor TBD is the team's faculty advisor.
